MAWPHOR (Monolith or Rituals Stone): the first Khasi Daily, was established on 1st July 1989, with a four page tabloid size with a mere 1000 copies of circulation but within a span of 14 years, people have realised the value and standard of the daily and this have added the readership of about 2 millions people.Facing with a lot of difficulties at the initial stages, the publication have started with a mere letter press, gradually change to Electronic Typing and now fully computerised with latest printing technology.

WHY MAWPHOR?: After Seventeen Years of Statehood, though various vernacular weeklies and English dailies had mushroomed, but yet non could fulfill the expectation of the people, especially the rural masses are still missing the oppurtunity of important informations.So with a humble beginning ‘to serve and to inform’, which is also the motto of the paper, Mawphor was started with a view to raise the standard of newspapers in the state by disseminating correct and latest information to its esteem readers. As the motto of the paper suggests, our missions is not only to give information of various incidents, schemes, developments but also to educate and create awareness among the people.At present, Mawphor has won the hearts of peoples, young and old and even non Khasis also. The Paper has reached to every nook and corner of the state and even outside the state.
